The Vedanta Group's social impact initiative, Nand Ghar, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bihar to embark on a significant modernization drive for 50,000 Anganwadi centers across the state. This partnership makes Bihar the 18th state to join Nand Ghar's efforts to transform India's Anganwadi ecosystem.
Boosting Early Childhood Care and Nutrition
The agreement was formalized between the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Bihar, and the Anil Agarwal Foundation's Nand Ghar initiative. Dr. Shweta Gupta, Minister of Social Welfare, Government of Bihar, and senior state officials, alongside Nand Ghar representatives, were present at the signing.
This initiative directly supports the Government of India's Saksham Anganwadi and POSHAN 2.0 mission, which prioritizes strengthening early childhood care, nutrition, health, and comprehensive development for children. By converting traditional Anganwadi centers into technology-enabled Nand Ghars, the program aims to improve integrated service delivery for mothers and children, creating dynamic community hubs.
Modern Infrastructure and Skill Development
The upgraded Nand Ghars will feature modern infrastructure, smart learning tools, and child-friendly classrooms. They will also offer enhanced nutrition and healthcare facilities, serving as vital community centers. A core component of the program is women's empowerment, with Nand Ghars providing vocational training and skill development courses. These programs are designed to boost employability, facilitate income-generating opportunities, and foster financial independence for women in rural communities.
