Andhra Pradesh: Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains Set for Dussehra Launch

· · 2 min read

Andhra Pradesh will soon welcome Vande Bharat sleeper trains, set to launch by Dussehra. These 16-coach, 160 km/h services aim to transform overnight travel, offering a comfortable and cost-effective alternative to flights on long-distance routes.

The Vijayawada Railway Division is gearing up for a significant upgrade in regional transportation with the impending launch of Vande Bharat sleeper trains. Expected to commence operations by Dussehra, these new 16-coach trains promise to revolutionize overnight journeys across Andhra Pradesh, offering speeds up to 160 km/h.

Transforming Overnight Travel

Unlike the existing Vande Bharat chair-car services connecting cities like Vijayawada to Secunderabad, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam, this new sleeper variant is specifically designed for long-distance night travel. Railway officials anticipate the service will provide a comfortable and cost-effective alternative to air travel for many passengers, eliminating the need for airport procedures and baggage restrictions.

Engineers are currently conducting final technical checks and signal operators are clearing lines to ensure a smooth introduction of the high-speed overnight rail service. The deployment in Andhra Pradesh follows successful operational debuts of Vande Bharat sleeper services on other major corridors, including the Howrah–Kamakhya and Mumbai-Bengaluru routes, paving the way for local officials to finalize clearances swiftly.

Modern Amenities for Enhanced Comfort

The Vande Bharat sleeper trains boast a modern, premium aesthetic with optimized space utilization. Passengers can expect first-class features such as upgraded interiors, enhanced lighting, and a streamlined layout that provides a more contemporary experience compared to conventional First AC coaches.

  • Fully air-conditioned compartments
  • Improved washroom facilities
  • Advanced digital passenger information systems
  • Comprehensive CCTV surveillance for safety

These enhanced onboard facilities, combined with overnight scheduling, are expected to shift traveler preferences back towards rail for select long-distance routes, making train journeys a preferred choice once again.
