Andhra Pradesh has unveiled Sricity International University (SIU) in Sri City, introducing what the state government describes as India's first industry-led work-study higher education model. Launched on July 2, 2026, the university aims to address the employability gap by allowing industry partners to directly shape the academic curriculum, ensuring graduates are prepared for an AI-driven economy from day one.
Industry-Designed Curriculum for the Future
Minister Nara Lokesh, overseeing Education, IT, Electronics & Communications, and RTG, emphasized that SIU signifies a pivotal shift from traditional classroom-centric education. Unlike conventional universities, SIU's curriculum will be collaboratively designed with industry leaders and undergo annual reviews to stay abreast of rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and digital technologies.
Industry partners will play a crucial role in defining course content, practical training modules, project specifications, and competency standards. This direct involvement is intended to ensure that what students learn is immediately relevant to the demands of the modern workforce.
Work-Study Model with Paid Internships
The university adopts a unique Work-Study Dual Model, where students will spend approximately one-third of their academic time in classrooms and the remaining two-thirds gaining practical experience with industry partners. A key feature of this model is the provision of paid internships starting from the first year, with students receiving a minimum monthly stipend of ₹10,000. This structure is designed to provide graduates with over two years of valuable industry experience by the time they complete their degrees.
SIU leverages the robust industrial ecosystem of Sri City, which hosts more than 200 companies from over 30 countries across diverse sectors including electronics, automotive, engineering, logistics, and advanced manufacturing.
Focus on Entrepreneurship and Holistic Skills
Beyond technical education, Sricity International University is committed to fostering entrepreneurship and developing critical soft skills. The campus features an incubation centre, Station-S, which is already supporting around 10 startups in collaboration with Gnan Circle Ventures, a Category-I Venture Capital Fund. The curriculum will also emphasize problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills to cultivate well-rounded professionals.
Admissions for the 2026-27 academic year will commence with undergraduate programs in Computer Science & Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Finance & Accounts, and Digital Media & Communications. The Andhra Pradesh government envisions SIU becoming a national blueprint for higher education, effectively integrating industry, workplace learning, and entrepreneurship to produce workforce-ready graduates.
