Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, recently made a significant spiritual and philanthropic visit to the renowned Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple. Participating in the early morning Suprabhata Seva, Ambani had a darshan of Lord Venkateswara and performed a traditional hair donation, a practice symbolizing the renunciation of ego and worldly attachments.
A Spiritual Offering at Tirumala
Ambani's decision to undergo the traditional tonsure ceremony drew considerable attention, as his distinctive long hair had become a recognizable personal feature. Following his darshan, Vedic scholars at the Ranganayakula Mandapam blessed him with Veda Ashirvachanam. Temple authorities also presented him with Srivari Theertha Prasadam and honored him with a ceremonial silk shawl, acknowledging his devotion.
Traditional Tonsure and Devotion
The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, nestled atop the seventh peak of the Seshachalam Hills, is one of India's most revered Hindu shrines. Thousands of devotees offer their hair daily as an act of faith and gratitude. Anant Ambani's visit aligns with his publicly expressed devotion to Lord Krishna and Shrinathji, marking another instance of his religious observance during important life moments.
Reliance's Green Mobility Pledge
Beyond his personal spiritual observances, Anant Ambani also utilized his visit to make a substantial philanthropic announcement. Reliance Industries will donate 25 electric buses to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the trust managing the temple. This donation is estimated to be worth approximately ₹27.5 crore.
Commitment to Sustainable Transport
The support from Reliance extends further than just the vehicles. The company has also pledged to cover the salaries and benefits for 50 drivers required to operate these new electric buses. Additionally, Reliance expressed its willingness to support the establishment of essential EV charging infrastructure in Tirumala, reinforcing a commitment to sustainable transport solutions for the temple complex and its many visitors.
A Pattern of Faith and Philanthropy
This visit is part of a continuing pattern of spiritual engagement for Anant Ambani. Earlier this month, he visited the Tirumala temple with his father, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, and his wife, Radhika Merchant. Last year, prior to his wedding, he undertook a padyatra to Dwarka, walking long distances to the Dwarkadhish Temple as an expression of faith. In addition to his temple visits, Ambani actively champions animal welfare through Reliance-backed conservation and rehabilitation efforts at Vantara, consistently advocating for compassion towards all living beings.
