Amul, Mother Dairy Hike Milk Prices by Rs 2/Litre from May 14

· · 2 min read

India's leading dairy brands, Amul and Mother Dairy, have increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across several variants, effective May 14, 2026. The companies cite rising operational costs, including cattle feed, packaging, and fuel, as well as higher farmer procurement prices.

Consumers across India will see higher milk prices starting May 14, 2026, as dairy giants Amul and Mother Dairy implement a Rs 2 per litre hike. This adjustment applies to various popular milk variants from both brands.

Reasons Behind the Price Increase

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul products, stated that the price revision is a direct consequence of escalating costs over the past year. Factors contributing to this include a significant rise in cattle feed expenses, milk packaging film costs, and fuel prices. Amul also noted that milk procurement prices paid to farmers have increased by 3.7% since their last revision in May 2025.

Similarly, Mother Dairy, which primarily serves the Delhi-NCR market, reported that farmer procurement prices have climbed by approximately 6% over the last year. The company emphasized that this latest price adjustment represents only a partial pass-through of these increased costs, aiming to balance farmer welfare with consumer affordability.

New Amul Milk Prices (Effective May 14, 2026)

For Amul's popular variants, the new prices are:

  • Amul Taaza (500 ml): Rs 29 (previously Rs 28)
  • Amul Gold (500 ml): Rs 35 (previously Rs 34)
  • Amul Cow Milk (500 ml): Rs 30 (previously Rs 29)
  • Amul Shakti (500 ml): Rs 32 (previously Rs 31)
  • Amul Buffalo Milk (500 ml): Rs 39 (previously Rs 37)
  • Amul T Special (1 litre): Rs 66 (previously Rs 63)

Mother Dairy's Revised Rates in Delhi-NCR

Mother Dairy's price revisions for the Delhi-NCR market include:

  • Toned milk (bulk vended): Rs 58 per litre (previously Rs 56)
  • Toned milk (pouched): Rs 60 per litre (previously Rs 58)
  • Full cream milk (pouched): Rs 72 per litre (unchanged)
  • Double-toned milk: Rs 54 per litre (unchanged)
  • Cow milk: Rs 62 per litre (previously Rs 60)

Supporting Dairy Farmers

Both Amul and Mother Dairy highlighted that a substantial portion of the consumer payment directly benefits milk producers. Amul stated that nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers goes back to farmers. Mother Dairy reported passing on approximately 75% to 80% of its milk sales realization to the farmers who supply their milk.

The companies framed these price adjustments not merely as a response to rising input costs but also as a necessary measure to support farmer incomes and encourage sustained milk production in the coming months, ensuring continued supply for consumers.
