Akash Ambani: Jio Satellite Broadband Will Connect Every Indian Home

· · 2 min read

Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani affirmed the company's commitment to ensuring every Indian home has a broadband connection, highlighting satellite technology's crucial role in expanding reach to underserved areas.

Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani announced the company is making significant strides in its satellite communication initiatives, aimed at bringing broadband connectivity to every household across India. Speaking on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress 2026, Ambani emphasized that satellite technology is vital for extending internet access, especially to regions where traditional infrastructure faces deployment challenges.

Satellite Technology to Complement Existing Networks

Ambani reiterated Jio's immediate focus on providing broadband solutions to Indian homes today, viewing future satellite services as a powerful complement to its extensive existing network. He stated that satellite connectivity would rapidly expand the boundaries of their reach, ensuring more widespread access.

Developing Indigenous Technology Stack

Jio is actively developing an end-to-end indigenous technology stack for its satellite communication services. Ambani highlighted the company's ambition for this technology to be on par with, or even lead, global standards, following a similar approach to other successful technological launches by Jio.

No Immediate Launch Timeline for LEO Satellites

While confirming rapid progress on satellite communication plans, Ambani refrained from providing a specific timeline for the launch of Jio's first fleet of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. He underscored that the overarching objective remains the expansion of broadband access across the nation, promising that every Indian home will eventually have a reliable broadband connection.

"What we're promising is that every Indian home will have a broadband connection that they can connect to," Ambani stated, reinforcing Jio's long-term vision for pervasive connectivity.

The remarks come as satellite broadband emerges as a competitive sector in India, attracting both global and domestic players eager to tap into the country's vast market for connectivity solutions.
