Air India Refutes Claims of AI882 Delay for Judge, Cites Early Departure from Ahmedabad

· · 2 min read

Air India has dismissed social media rumors that its Ahmedabad-Delhi flight AI882 was delayed on October 24, 2026, for a Supreme Court judge. The airline stated the flight departed five minutes early and arrived 26 minutes ahead of schedule.

NEW DELHI – Air India has officially rejected widespread social media claims alleging that its flight AI882 from Ahmedabad to Delhi on October 24, 2026, was delayed to accommodate a Supreme Court judge. The airline issued a statement clarifying that the flight actually departed ahead of its scheduled time and arrived in Delhi significantly earlier than planned.

Air India Debunks Delay Rumors

The controversy began with a viral social media post claiming that Supreme Court Justice Vipul Pancholi and his wife arrived late for the AI882 flight, prompting the airline to hold the aircraft for approximately 20 minutes. The post further alleged passenger protests and a lack of response from airline staff.

However, Air India's official Newsroom account on X (formerly Twitter) labeled these claims as "inaccurate." The airline urged passengers and social media users to verify information before sharing it, emphasizing the importance of relying on factual data.

Flight Timings Confirm No Delay

According to Air India's records, flight AI882 departed from Gate 2 of Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 3:50 pm IST on October 24, five minutes ahead of its scheduled 3:55 pm departure. The aircraft subsequently landed at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 5:19 pm IST, a full 26 minutes earlier than its scheduled 5:45 pm arrival time. The total journey time was one hour and 29 minutes.

Independent flight-tracking services have corroborated these timings, showing the flight operating without delay and arriving ahead of schedule. While Air India's statement directly addressed the delay allegations, it did not confirm or deny whether Justice Vipul Pancholi or his wife were passengers on the flight.

Combating Misinformation

This incident highlights the growing challenge airlines face in combating the rapid spread of unverified information on social media, especially when public figures are involved. Air India's swift clarification aims to quell speculation and reinforce trust in its operational transparency. The airline reiterated its request for the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and to instead rely on official sources for accurate flight details.
