Air India has launched a new international travel SIM service, EasyRoam, in collaboration with Tata Communications. This initiative allows passengers flying abroad to access voice and data services seamlessly during their journeys.
EasyRoam: Connectivity for Global Travelers
The EasyRoam service will be available to Air India passengers as both a physical SIM card and an eSIM. Travelers can activate the service through a dedicated Air India-branded webpage, ensuring convenient access before their departure.
Initially, the SIM card itself will be provided free of charge. Customers will then purchase roaming packs, which start from ₹241, excluding taxes. The pricing for these packs will vary based on the destination and the specific plan chosen. As an added benefit, customers purchasing a data plan may receive up to 1GB of additional complimentary data, though this offer excludes Maldives and Mauritius.
Extensive Coverage and Flexible Plans
The EasyRoam service will initially cover 30 countries across key regions, including North America, Europe (including the UK), Australia, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. Air India has stated its intention to progressively expand this coverage to up to 190 countries, offering extensive global connectivity.
Passengers will have the flexibility to select either destination-specific or worldwide travel plans. Options will include data-only connectivity or comprehensive voice and data packages, catering to diverse traveler needs. The service also provides features for monitoring usage and managing costs while abroad, with notifications and alerts.
Travelers can also retain their assigned EasyRoam number for up to one year at a nominal cost, offering convenience for frequent international flyers.
Part of Air India's Ancillary Growth Strategy
The introduction of EasyRoam is a strategic move by Air India to enhance its ancillary offerings, moving beyond its core airline services. This aligns with the airline's broader commercial transformation efforts, which include expanding direct bookings and improving cross-selling opportunities.
Air India reported a significant increase in ancillary revenue, growing 2.6 times, while passenger revenue saw a 1.6-fold increase. The airline has also been investing in its direct sales channels and digital booking capabilities to improve the overall customer experience.
Tata Communications, a part of the same Tata Group as Air India, underpins the EasyRoam service with its extensive global network. The company boasts partnerships with over 600 mobile network operators worldwide, ensuring robust connectivity for EasyRoam users across various destinations.
