· · 2 min read

Aditya Birla Capital announced its entry into the gold loan business, with plans for 1,000 branches over the next three years. This strategic move led to a 3% jump in its shares during early trading.

Aditya Birla Capital Ltd. (ABCL) shares experienced a notable surge of up to 3% in early trading on Thursday following the company's announcement of its foray into the gold loan sector. This strategic expansion aims to establish a significant presence in India's rapidly growing secured lending market.

The company outlined ambitious plans to roll out its gold loan operations in phases. Initially, ABCL intends to open between 200 to 300 dedicated gold loan branches by March 2027, strategically located across high-potential markets. Over the next three years, the non-banking financial company (NBFC) arm of Aditya Birla Capital aims to build a comprehensive pan-India network comprising approximately 1,000 gold loan branches.

Rakesh Singh, Executive Director and CEO of the NBFC at Aditya Birla Capital Limited, commented on the new venture. He highlighted that gold loans are experiencing strong structural growth in India, making this entry a natural extension of the company's secured lending strategy. Singh emphasized that trust is paramount in the gold loan category, and customers seek transparency, secure handling of their valuable assets, and reliable service.

"Gold loans are witnessing strong structural growth in India, and our entry into this segment is a natural extension of our secured lending strategy. In a category where trust is paramount, customers seek transparency, secure handling of their gold, and the confidence that their valuable assets are in safe and trusted hands. Backed by Aditya Birla Group’s generational legacy of trust, integrity, and responsible stewardship, we are well positioned to serve these customer needs," said Rakesh Singh.

Aditya Birla Capital's gold loan product will integrate dedicated branch-led services with advanced omnichannel digital capabilities. This approach is designed to offer customers a seamless borrowing experience, characterized by transparent pricing, the secure handling of pledged gold, and swift loan disbursals. The company aims to leverage its extensive distribution network and digital infrastructure to deliver a superior customer experience.

The announcement has been positively received by investors, reflecting confidence in Aditya Birla Capital's strategic direction and its potential to capture a substantial share of the burgeoning gold loan market. The company's stock, trading under ABCAPITAL, touched a high of Rs 406.75 apiece following the news.
