· · 2 min read

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has won an ₹8,500 crore inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh. This project will support green hydrogen and ammonia initiatives in the Vizag area and bolster data center infrastructure, causing AESL's stock to rise.

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured a significant ₹8,500 crore inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh. The announcement led to a nearly 2 percent rise in AESL's shares during an otherwise subdued trading session on Friday, with the stock hitting a high of ₹1,713 on the BSE.

Powering Green Initiatives and Digital Growth

The newly awarded project is critical for facilitating the integration and supply of power to the proposed Phase I Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia projects in Andhra Pradesh's Vizag area. These green molecule initiatives are expected to create an estimated demand of 4,500 MW.

Beyond green energy, the transmission system will also cater to the increasing load requirements from the Pendurthi–Vizag region, which is currently experiencing a surge in data center and digital infrastructure investments. Adani Energy emphasized that reliable, high-capacity transmission infrastructure is crucial for ensuring power availability, grid stability, and long-term industrial competitiveness as green molecules generation and data centers scale up in the state.

Project Details and Scope

AESL won this substantial order under the Government of India's Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework. The project will be housed under a Special Purpose Vehicle named Vizag Power Transmission Ltd.

The scope of work includes the establishment of a 4×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV GIS substation at Pendurthi (Vizag) and a 3×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation. This expansion will add 1,582 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL's existing network.

Adani Energy's Expanding Footprint

With this new project, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd's overall transmission network will expand to 29,531 ckm and 1,33,675 MVA of transformation capacity. As India's largest private transmission and distribution company, AESL currently serves approximately 13 million consumers in metropolitan Mumbai and the industrial hub of Mundra SEZ through its retail electricity distribution business. The company is also actively expanding its smart metering operations across the country.
