Adani Energy Secures Rs 4,700 Crore Maharashtra Power Project; Shares Rise

Adani Energy Solutions has won a significant Rs 4,700 crore transmission project in Maharashtra, designed to evacuate up to 4,500 MW of renewable energy. Following the announcement, the company's shares saw a 1.75% increase.

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has been awarded a substantial transmission project in Maharashtra, valued at approximately Rs 4,700 crore. This strategic win, secured through a Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process where AESL emerged as the lowest bidder, led to a 1.75% rise in the company's shares on Wednesday, reaching Rs 1,617.85 on the BSE.

The project, officially named "Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4500 MW) - Part A," is crucial for strengthening India's inter-regional transmission corridor. It will facilitate the evacuation of up to 4,500 MW of renewable and storage power, playing a vital role in the nation's clean energy transition.

Project Details and Scope

The new transmission infrastructure will be housed under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Satara Power Transmission Ltd and is slated for completion within 36 months. Upon commissioning, the project will add 562 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL's existing portfolio. This expansion will elevate the company's total transmission network to 29,739 ckm and its transformation capacity to 1,43,425 MVA.

Key components of the project include:

  • Establishment of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara.
  • Construction of a Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line.
  • Augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station.
  • Development of associated transmission infrastructure.

Strategic Importance for Renewable Energy

Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, emphasized the project's significance. He stated, "The Satara transmission project will create a vital transmission backbone to supports both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment, strengthening power flows between Southern and Western India."

The project is particularly important for integrating large-scale renewable energy into the national grid, especially from pumped storage projects, which are increasingly recognized as critical enablers for grid flexibility and reliability. AESL reiterated its commitment to developing future-ready transmission infrastructure that supports renewable energy growth, enhances grid stability, and contributes to India's long-term decarbonization objectives.
