Adani Defence Inaugurates South Asia's Largest Private Missile Ecosystem in MP

· · 3 min read

Adani Defence & Aerospace has inaugurated South Asia's largest private missile ecosystem in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, a ₹2,500-crore project. This facility will integrate missile systems and produce critical components, creating 5,000 jobs and boosting India's indigenous defense capabilities.

Adani Defence & Aerospace has broken ground on a monumental ₹2,500-crore project in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, establishing what is set to become South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem. The facility marks a significant leap for India's defense manufacturing, introducing the nation's first backward-integrated private capability that combines missile system integration with the production of composite propellant and Trinitrotoluene (TNT) at a single location.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held recently, saw the presence of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and other key dignitaries including Karan Adani, MD of APSEZ, and Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace. This strategic investment is projected to generate 5,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs, opening new opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and solidifying Madhya Pradesh's role as a critical defense manufacturing hub.

Boosting Indigenous Defense Capabilities

By anchoring the production of critical materials alongside the assembly process, the new complex addresses a vital gap in the domestic supply chain. This integration will enable the Indian Armed Forces to significantly scale up the induction of indigenous precision-guided munitions, reducing reliance on foreign imports.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav welcomed the investment, stating, "This landmark investment reinforces the state’s emergence as a preferred destination for strategic manufacturing. It will strengthen India's indigenous defence ecosystem while accelerating industrial growth and attracting more high-value investments to the state."

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the project's regional impact, noting, "This landmark project marks the beginning of a new industrial chapter for the Shivpuri-Guna region. By bringing advanced defence manufacturing to the heart of our state, the facility will create high-quality employment opportunities and build a strong industrial ecosystem for the future."

Advanced Manufacturing and Global Aspirations

The Shivpuri facility is designed to manage multiple missile programmes simultaneously, leveraging automated production systems and globally benchmarked safety standards. Beyond meeting domestic military requirements, the infrastructure aims to serve trusted international partners, thereby enhancing India's position as a global exporter of defense equipment.

Jeet Adani, Director, Adani Defence & Aerospace, highlighted the comprehensive nature of the project: "This project brings together missile system integration with the production of the materials needed to build advanced missile systems, all at one location, creating South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem. We are proud to bring this sovereign capability to Madhya Pradesh, strengthening India's defence preparedness and contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India)."

Expanding Adani's Footprint in Defense

This latest investment expands Adani's existing presence in Madhya Pradesh. Since 2020, the company has operated a small arms ecosystem in Gwalior, supplying pistols, light machine guns, carbines, and assault rifles to the Indian Armed Forces. The Shivpuri complex arrives as several indigenous missile systems, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in partnership with Adani, transition from successful trials into mass manufacturing.

The new facility will directly support the serial production of next-generation weapons, including:

  • Next Generation Anti-Radiation Missile (NGARM) / RUDRAM-II
  • Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR)
  • Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB 'Gaurav')
  • Tactical Autonomous Reconnaissance and Attack (TARA) system
