The 8th Central Pay Commission, tasked with reviewing the pay, allowances, and pension structures for Central government employees and pensioners, has initiated a recruitment drive for various consultant positions. About the 8th Central Pay Commission

Constituted to periodically assess and recommend revisions to the compensation framework for central government staff and retirees, the 8th Central Pay Commission plays a crucial role in shaping public sector emoluments. Its work involves comprehensive analysis, data collection, and fiscal impact assessments to ensure fair and sustainable pay scales.

Hiring Categories and Vacancies

The Commission is seeking to fill 20 vacancies across three distinct categories:

  • Senior Consultants: 5 positions
  • Consultants: 5 positions
  • Young Professionals: 10 positions

These appointments are on a contractual basis, initially for a period of one year or until the Commission concludes its tenure, whichever comes first. Extensions are contingent upon performance review.

What the Roles Involve

Selected candidates will provide essential support to the Commission through a range of analytical and research tasks. Key responsibilities include:

  • Examining existing salary and pension structures.
  • Conducting studies on compensation trends through data analysis and surveys.
  • Performing legal research pertinent to service matters.
  • Coordinating with various central ministries for data collection.
  • Assisting in estimating the fiscal implications of the Commission's recommendations.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports, presentations, and other vital documentation.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet specific criteria regarding experience, age, and educational qualifications as of April 1, 2026:

Experience and Age:

  • Senior Consultants: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, under 45 years of age.
  • Consultants: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, under 40 years of age.
  • Young Professionals: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience, under 32 years of age.

Education and Skills:

  • A Master's degree or MBA in Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, an LL.B with Bar Council enrolment and relevant experience in legal research or service matters before tribunals or courts.
  • Mandatory proficiency in Microsoft Excel, other spreadsheet applications, and presentation tools.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in pay fixation, compensation, or establishment matters.

Compensation and Application Details

The monthly remuneration for full-time contractual roles is as follows:

  • Senior Consultants: ₹1.8 lakh
  • Consultants: ₹1.2 lakh
  • Young Professionals: ₹90,000

Part-time arrangements (12-day or 6-day basis) are also available, with proportionate rates. Applicable taxes will be deducted at source.
