17-Year-Old Aditya Bansal's Late-Night DM to Raj Shamani Leads to ₹1 Crore by 22

· · 2 min read

Aditya Bansal, then 17 and preparing for JEE, messaged podcaster Raj Shamani in 2021, securing an opportunity to write Twitter threads. This initial break helped him build a network, gain clients, and ultimately claim earnings of ₹1 crore by age 22.

In an inspiring tale of seizing opportunity, Aditya Bansal, a young entrepreneur, claims to have earned ₹1 crore by the age of 22, a journey he attributes to a late-night direct message (DM) sent to content creator and podcaster Raj Shamani when Bansal was just 17 years old.

From JEE Prep to Online Ventures

In 2021, while preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), Bansal found himself exploring various avenues to earn money online. Despite trying different skills like graphic design and website development, he had limited success. It was during this period that he encountered Raj Shamani's content, which often discussed different income generation strategies.

Inspired by one of Shamani's videos, Bansal decided to condense the ideas into a comprehensive Twitter thread. He dedicated hours to crafting the content in a Google Doc before sending it directly to Shamani, reportedly without significant expectations.

The DM That Changed Everything

Bansal recounted sending the DM at 10:41 PM, receiving a reply from Shamani just five hours later, around 3:53 AM. Shamani expressed interest in uploading the thread and offered Bansal a position to write more Twitter threads if the initial post garnered a positive response. The post subsequently received approximately 1,200 likes, securing Bansal his first paid opportunity at 17.

For his early work, Bansal, who didn't yet have a bank account, was reportedly compensated through Amazon gift cards. He emphasized that this initial opportunity was less about the money and more about the trust and mentorship he received. Shamani, according to Bansal, shared ideas, sources, and treated him as a valued team member.

Building a Network and Achieving Success

The collaboration with Shamani eventually concluded when Shamani sought a full-time team. However, Bansal received a crucial testimonial from the podcaster, which proved instrumental in securing his first retainer client. This initial success allowed Bansal to gradually expand his professional network, eventually working with over 45 founders.

Bansal acknowledged that his entrepreneurial path wasn't always smooth, with phases where he struggled to find clients and generate income. Yet, he states that the confidence gained from that very first opportunity at 17 years old was what propelled him to persist through challenges. While their direct interactions remained limited beyond Shamani's podcast, Bansal describes that single DM as the most significant turning point in his career.
